What´s been going on at The Game Assembly
The spring time is a very hectic period for us at The Game Assembly.
The best way to catch up is to follow our Facebook-page .
Here I will gather some stuff that´s been going on this spring.
The 18th of April was the students deadline for making their portfolios. This was also the date when game companies (and of course other companies that are interested in our students as interns) can contact our students and offer internship. At 10 a´clock the 18th the first company knocked at our door. But since we have coached our students with their portfolios and personal letters and stuff our students were ready. At the moment I know that there are at least 15 that have signed their internship agreements and several are interviewed by game studios in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, England and Bulgaria…I´ll post where they all end up in August on my “map”: http://www.thegameassembly.com/tga-students-work-here-today.
Per Smedjeback from “EA Easy”: http://easystudios.se/, came and visited our classrooms. He looked at portfolios and informed the students what Easy were doing up in Stockholm. This was very appreciated since we have students from all over Sweden and from all over the world I might say. We all live in Sweden but we speak both English and Swedish when we cooperate. Everybody understands Swedish and everybody has made their interview in Swedish but sometimes it´s just easier to speak English. And since the game industry is a global industry it´s just good for us native Swedes to practice.
At the 27th of April The Game Assembly had the annual “Meet and Greet”: http://www.thegameassembly.com/meet-and-greet-the-game-assembly-i-var at Minc. We invited Swedish and
Nordic game industry. 18 companies came and met our students. They all presented what they do and said what kind of competence they were looking for. The class of 09 hard core mingled and showed their portfolios. We got a really nice response during the Meet and Greet and also from companies that couldn´t come. And I´ve got several mails from game studios from all over Sweden that want to get in contact with our students after this event. The word travels.
Among the companies you found; IO Interactive, Ubisoft Massive”:http://www.massive.se/, EA Easy, Tarsier, Junebud, Southend Interactive, Serious Games Interactive, Imperial Game Studio, Crunchfish, Redikod, Frictional Games,
At the 11th-12th of May Nordic Game Conference and all our students worked as volonteers. This is a really important event for us. It gives our students a chance to meet the national and international game industry.
We have posted several pictures on our “Facebook page”: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_347197840977&id=10150174195610978¬if_t=like if you want to see our students in action at Nordic Game Conference.
Andreas Oberg, CTO, from “Codemasters”: http://www.codemasters.co.uk/index.php?territory=EnglishUK visited The Game Assembly for the second time. Last time he found Robin Doeleman who applied to Codemasters as an intern. Today Robin works at Codemasters. Andreas even mentioned The game Assembly three times during his talk at Nordic Game Conference and made sure to point out Robins programming skills. The picture above is of Andreas in the middle and Americo to the right.
The 16th was our last application date, but due to a human error we didn´t get our marketing postcard out on time. So the people that get the TGA postcard will have till the 23rd to apply. We hope this will never happen again.
The applications that have arrived looks good though. We look forward to go through them.
Our class of 09, the ones that will start their internship in August, are in the middle of doing their last game ever at The Game Assembly…at the same time they are contacting game companies. And it´s looking good.
Our class of 10 are working hard on their Turn based strategy. Stay tuned. We will post the two winners.
